Employment Discrimination Law

Employment discrimination occurs when a person in the workplace is treated differently or unfairly based on their race, gender, age, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Workplace discrimination can include failure to hire, failure to promote, harassment, wrongfully firing, and other actions that negatively impact an employee. While this is a serious issue in today’s society and those who are victims of these discriminatory actions should be compensated, it is not uncommon for an employer to be wrongfully accused of workplace discrimination. We work with businesses facing such allegations.

GMP LLP defends employers accused of wrongful termination and workplace discrimination under Title 7 of the Federal Civil Rights Act or under the D.C. Human Rights Act. We represent employers who are responding to charges filed at the EEOC – the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission – and the D.C. Office of Human Rights (OHR). We also represent employers in drafting responses to the EEOC and OHR and we can represent them thereafter, should the case not be disposed of at OHR or EEOC. Should a complainant/former employee/former job applicant be issued a right-to-sue letter, we also represent employers in D.C. local courts, as well as D.C. and Maryland Federal Courts.
